We were loaded on to the old Dutch steamer, the Poelau Laut. It sailed alone across the Pacific, constantly zig-zagging. Little happened for 12,948 miles and 42 days, except the bull sessions, gambling, fist fights and arguing that occur when you jam 3000 men together on a small steamer.
