1938 CHEVROLET ARMY STAFF SEDAN - Though it may not look like much, the 1938 Chevrolet was widely used as a staff vehicle for senior officers. The September 1943 War Department manual TM 9-2800 ("Standard Military Motor Vehicles") listed two types of 5-Passenger 4x2 Sedans - the Heavy type, manufactured by Buick and Packard, and the Light type, manufactured by Chevrolet, Ford and Plymouth. These were civilian cars, not built to military specs, just stripped of chrome, painted OD, and with a few standard military lights and lamps attached. It's surely an irony that the depth of mud on the country roads necessitated the removal of the mudguards. Cool civilian whitewalls remain on the front! At the rear this vehicle is fitted with Army standard non-directional bar treads.
