SURRENDERED

The size of this tunnel, and the position of the blast screen,  suggests that  this may be the eastern entrance of Malinta Tunnel.  It is most-likely staged.

After most of the POW's were moved off the island,  the Japanese assembled two work details on the island. One group was kept on the lower level of the hospital and did some heavy work, i.e. replacing the gun tube on Btry. Hearn, cannibalising Morrisons 6" guns to replace defective parts on Btry. Ramsey's guns.

The other detail, which did less skilled work, was kept  at Malinta Tunnel and went out on work details from there, salvaging scrap metal for transport to Japan.
