"THE HALF RUFUS" - SS216 -
In July 1942, the
American liberty ship USAT RUFUS KING broke its back when it was wrecked
off the southern tip of Moreton Island, in Moreton Bay, near Brisbane.
Though recorded as a total loss, the forward section of the ship was
salvaged and used as a cargo lighter. It is photographed here probably
in the Brisbane River.
