S/SGT WEBER -
In April 1941 Weber had been stationed in Panama Canal Zone with the 11th Engineers' 'Jungle Cats.' He transferred to the 501st PIR when it arrived in Panama, did his parachute qualifications there, and sailed to Australia in the Dutch tub 'Poelau Laut' when the 501st became the 2d Bn of the 503d PIR. He had not seen home in almost three and a half years, and was rotated home after Noemfoor. He returned to Mindoro only a week or two prior to Corregidor. S/Sgt. Weber's Class-A jacket sports five overseas service bars (one for each 6 month overseas) and one re-enlistment service stripe. On his right breast is Combat Infantryman's Badge, and on his right chest are his paratroopers wings. He is wearing a 6th Army patch on his left shoulder - men of the 503d were entitled to wear this patch. During WWII, this was a red patch with a white 6-pointed star.
