CORREGIDOR BASE HOSPITAL
AREA -
The
three wings of the Base Hospital show little artillery
bombardment damage from the 1941-42 campaign, as the
Japanese artillery concentrated on military targets.
Between the hospital and the junior officers residence in
the foreground is Middleside Tunnel. The building at the
right hand side of the picture is the PX. Topside Barracks,
generally known as Mile Long Barracks (but actually only a
third of a mile long) crests the hill. The single building
in the centre foreground is the doctors duty quarters. The
detail taken in this low-level pass is exquisite, but the
information didn't always filter through to the men who had
to do the fighting on the ground.
