THE IMPOSITION
OF A STRAFING LINE ALLOWS BOMBING TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE
DROP
-
Taken from a B-25 as it banks around for
another run high above Malinta Hill, this picture really
rewards a close inspection. In the far left background,
parachutes can be seen floating down over Landing Zone B
(the golf course.) In midground is the wreck of Btty
Ramsay. In the foreground, smoke rises above Malinta Hill as
it falls towards Malinta Point, and a large explosion off
the Lorcha Dock harmlessly ripples North Harbour. Parachutes
drift down towards Landing Zone A,the athletic field (right
backgound.) This side of Middleside Barracks is the former
site of Barrio San Isidro. In the midground, a towering
explosion dwarfs Engineer's Ravine (right). To the right
rear of the smoke cloud is Building #533, a magazine. The
flat area above and to the right of Engineer's Ravine is the
former Pistol Target Range. The smoke indicates that this
photograph was taken a few seconds after the photograph
#3.In the photographic print, even the details of Btty.
Ramsay can be seen.
