JAPANESE PROPAGANDA |
Probably the single most
successful propaganda of the Pacific War was a scene of the US flag
being lowered on Corregidor, and then desecrated. It was accepted as
being accurate, and even if it wasn't, it satisfied a need, and it
was repeated so often that it became established in the public mind
as genuine.
The truth, of course, was that it was staged for the newsreel
public, and the media swallowed the fake hook line and sinker - and
it wouldn't be the first or last time either. However, the Japanese
underestimated the bitterness it engendered, it became raw material
for virulent anti-Japanese propaganda. For the true story of
the lowering of the US flag on Corregidor, read on.
