John MARA was Platoon leader of 1st Platoon, "D" Co on Negros, and was an excellent platoon leader.  In the Corregidor mission he had been loaned to "E" Company, which had suffered a shortage of officers. He was the officer who witnessed the Congressional Medal of Honour Citation for Lloyd G. McCarter.  At this time (October 2006) he lives in Massachusetts and is almost totally blind from macular degeneration.
