Today, there are four pubs in Gordonvale, The Great Northern, The Central, The Commercial and Ye Olde Gordonvale Pub.  Though the name of a 'drinking hole' might have changed over the years, pubs generally don't change much in this part of Far North Queensland.  During WWII, they were not amply supplied with alcohol during the war - as testimony to this, none of the troopers in the photo has a beer in hand.

The bicycles weren't official US Army transportation, but they were handy to have.  Many troopers also acquired horses, generating amusing comments about the '503d Parachute Cavalry.'
