I became involved in a project to construct a temporary bridge using
drums. The bridge over the Himagaan had been damaged by our Air
Corps and it was possible to use it on foot if you didn't mind
getting your feet wet.
Many of the PW's were engineer troops and I had them design and
construct a pontoon bridge using 55 gallon oil drums for pontoons.
It worked very well until some idiot tried to cross it with a
heavily loaded two and a half ton truck. The PW's got it working
again.
