  Guarding Prisoners, Corregidor, P.I.

The card's caption reads, "Corregidor Island at Mouth of Manila Bay."  This shows north beach/side of isthmus in early 1900s.  The 2 white buildings at the base of Skipper Hill are hospital buildings built by the Spanish.  Corregidor 's climate was thought to be more healthful than the rest of the PI due to cooler temps and the breeze.  (At that time, climate was thought to cure disease, since they didn't have anything else.)  The US Army took over the hospital in 1898 and sent sick soldiers there to recover from their diseases.  The nipa huts could be some US Army barracks, as well as native huts.  Note also the "semiphore" on the top of the hill on right.
